Toyota has unveiled the new Land Cruiser "250" Series to the world, with the launch planned for the first half of 2024. The new Land Cruiser is essentially a replacement for the Prado (J150) in global markets. Similarly, the 2024 model marks its return to the U.S. market after a three-year hiatus.

The new 250 Series is a core Land Cruiser model with the same GA-F platform as the 300 Series to dramatically improve basic performance as an off-roader. It also comes with various powertrains to achieve even more powerful driving performance and environmental performance worthy of the Land Cruiser name.

For this new generation, Land Cruiser is exclusively available with five powertrains - the range-topping 2.4-litre turbo petrol hybrid powertrain producing 330 PS and 465 630 Nm of torque for North America and China, a 2.4-litre turbo petrol powertrain delivering 281 PS and 430 Nm for Middle East, Eastern Europe,  a 2.8-litre turbo diesel hybrid powertrain producing 204 PS and 500 Nm for Australia and Western Europe, a 2.8-litre turbo diesel power train producing 204 PS and 500 Nm for Western Europe, Eastern Europe, Japan, Middle East, etc, and a 2.7-litre petrol powertrain delivering 163 PS and 246 Nm for Eastern Europe, Japan, etc.

The new Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is slightly smaller and narrower than the outgoing 200 Series model, making it nimbler on the trails, and Land Cruiser features off-road tech that has debuted on the newest generation of Toyota trucks. Toyota Safety Sense, the latest active safety package with advanced and improved functions, is standard on all new Land Cruiser grades.

The new Land Cruiser gains further off-road capability with a new disconnecting front anti-roll bar. The technology – SDM (Stabiliser with Disconnection Mechanism) – is a Toyota first and enables the driver to change the status of the anti-roll bar (stabiliser) using a switch on the dashboard. This flexibility allows for better driveability on rough roads and greater comfort and easier handling in on-road driving.Upgrades to the Multi-Terrain Monitor and Multi-Terrain Select provide further support when driving off-road. Using a high-resolution camera and display, the Multi-Terrain Monitor gives the driver a clear view of the area immediately around and beneath the vehicle; the Multi-Terrain Select system automatically adapts vehicle performance to suit the demands of different off-road driving conditions. In profile, the exterior design displays a classic Land Cruiser silhouette, with strong horizontal lines. Overall length is 4,920 mm, width 1,980 mm and height 1,870 mm; the wheelbase is 2,850 mm. The interior offers a choice of five or seven-seat configurations, with a design that evokes the strength and functionality of an authentic off-roader. This is witnessed in details such as the horizontally arranged instrument panel and switches that are shaped for easy operation, even when driving over challenging terrain.

Launched originally as the Toyota BJ on August 1, 1951, the Land Cruiser series is now 72 years old.  Until now, the Land Cruiser range has been divided into three different series―the Station Wagon that always showcases the latest technologies and has evolved into the flagship model (currently the 300 Series), the Heavy-Duty model with outstanding durability and off-road driving performance (the 70 Series), and the Light Duty model that provides ease of handling and comfort on an off-road base as a lifestyle and practical choice for customers (Prado).
